Caviar Black

Screen shot 2010-06-07 at 9.52.02 AM.pngSo far so good.  Key benefits of this model over older WD Black drives (except 1TB FAEX) are that this has 500GB platters and dual actuator technology. Larger and multiple platters result in higher read/write speeds due to higher areal density, dual actuator means the drive heads can read data with greater precision and granularity.

Four-Core

Finally taking the jump to Four-Core.  All about Hyper-Threading. Though a bit late, this’ll be a work in progress for all my work (in progress).

Thanks again to all the help from tech gurus: C.mo, and Justin Rimando.  Also REL and Film Director B.Badion for the common sense.

The new Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processors support Hyper-Threading, which allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core. So an 8-core Mac Pro presents 16 virtual cores that are recognized by Mac OS X. Performance is enhanced because Hyper-Threading enables the processor to take better advantage of the execution resources available in each core.

Noteput

The Noteput interactive music table was concocted by a pair of German design students back in October of last year, but watching it in action is still a mesmerizing experience. Employing a simple camera beneath the surface, the table can tell what notes you’re placing upon it and play them back — individually when you position them or as a group once you hit the big play button. A noteable feature for is the ability to loop playback and replace notes on the fly.

Lemur

The Lemur came to life through Guillaume Largillier (CEO), Pascal Joguet (CTO) and Julien Olivier (Lead Software and Hardware Architecture). Their common passion for music and technology experimentation started growing in the mid-90′s, when the two were studying electronic music composition at the Bordeaux National Music Conservatory. “At this time, although we had access to digital samplers and synthesizers, the tape recorder was still the corner stone of the Studio – making electronic music was still about cutting, gluing and looping analog tapes.

Lemur’s multi-touch technology makes it possible to use all ten fingertips to accurately control multiple user-interface objects simultaneously.  With Lemur, manage an unlimited number of interfaces for any of your needs; design your own custom interfaces with JazzEditor or download and fine tune ready-made interfaces from the web. Simply said, no other piece of hardware controls sequencers, modular synthesizers, virtual instruments, VJ software, and light control in one single piece of technology. Lemur becomes what you want it to be.

JazzDaemon is a background application running on your host computer that handles MIDI communication between the Lemur and any number of MIDI applications or devices connected to your host computer. This single interface allows you to control the track levels of your sequencer with one hand while playing your hardware sampler or virtual instrument with the other.

Shooting in Rain

Through the weather

Sized for a pro size DSLR with a hot-shoe mounted flash and up to a 70-200 f2.8 lens attached.  The Hydrophobia® Flash 70-200 features a clear flash tower, which can be collapsed when a flash is not attached to the DSLR.  It protects valuable photo equipment from the elements during active use. Keep shooting in the rain, snow or blowing sand.

You can actually attach your DSLR and simply carry it by the rain cover, and the two sleeves are big enough to not only let you control the camera (with the help of a clear window ’round back), but swap out batteries or memory cards as well.
