I think there’s this essential human desire to have a unified field theory. But there is no unified field theory for Lost, nor do we think there should be. Philosophically we don’t buy into that. The great mysteries of life fundamentally can’t be addressed. We just have to tell a good story and let the chips fall where they may. We don’t know whether the resolution between the two timelines is going to make people say, “Oh, that’s cool” or “Oh, fuck those guys, they belly-flopped at the end.” But the fact that we’re nervous about it and that we’re actually attempting it — that is what we had to do. We had to try to make the dive.

Update

ABC’s send-off for “Lost” is starting to seem as long as a flight on Oceanic Airlines, not that its fans will mind. The network is extending the finale by half an hour, giving the producers two and a half hours in all, and delaying local newscasts that night, May 23. A total of seven and a half hours of “Lost” is planned that weekend, according to ABC’s schedule. First the network will rerun the two-hour pilot on May 22, at 8 p.m. Then on May 23, “Lost” takes over the schedule, starting with a two-hour look back at 7 p.m. The finale starts at 9. Then at 12:05 a.m., Jimmy Kimmel will host a special episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” titled “Aloha to ‘Lost,’ ” featuring alternative endings to the show and appearances by the producers.

Four-Core

Finally taking the jump to Four-Core.  All about Hyper-Threading. Though a bit late, this’ll be a work in progress for all my work (in progress).

Thanks again to all the help from tech gurus: C.mo, and Justin Rimando.  Also REL and Film Director B.Badion for the common sense.

———

The new Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processors support Hyper-Threading, which allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core. So an 8-core Mac Pro presents 16 virtual cores that are recognized by Mac OS X. Performance is enhanced because Hyper-Threading enables the processor to take better advantage of the execution resources available in each core.

Gigantic Baby Stars Discovered in Cloud of Space Dust

Written by XARIUSOUND. Filed under Science. Tagged , , , , . No comments.

The previously undiscovered protostars are the small points of orangey light in the center of the image. They are up to 10 times more massive than the sun.

The Herschel Space Observatory, operated by the European Space Agency, obtained the new image, which is a composite of three different wavelengths of light all in the infrared part of the spectrum. Infrared light waves are longer and scatter less than visible light, allowing scientists to probe dust-shrouded areas of space. In this image, the shortest wavelength is blue, the medium green, and the longest red.

The intense star-forming region of the Milky Way is about 5,000 light-years away in the direction of the constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn. This image shows only part of the massive cloud of dust. If the whole thing, seen below, were visible to the naked eye, it would be large in the sky, appearing around five times the size of a full moon.

Tirelessly working at her craft and balancing motherhood at the same time would make some want to give up- Jimmie says it only makes her stronger. An exciting live show, a powerhouse voice, and striking looks have earned Jimmie the right to be called a complete package.

These two albums we used to scratch & freestyle to. (Circa 2000).  We juggled on an old ISP mixer.  During this stage, people still used to session in backyards of house parties with their red plastic cups filled with jungle juice.  Some talented MC encounters, from every region. These memories live and stay golden.

BLU + MAINFRAME
Blu and Mainframe, who’ve been killing it on the underground scene over the last couple of years, celebrate the official launch of their new label, New World Color. New World Color is a multidimensional entertainment company that John Barnes (Blu) and Jon Ancheta (Mainframe) created. “It’s basically an outlet for us to release our art & products that we create through our own channel, using our acquired sources, in our preferred environment at our own time & pace.” In celebration of the NWC launch Blu and Mainframe released their first music video “DISCO D.Y.N.A.M.I.T.E.” earlier this year.

DAVINCI (swtbrds)
To also bless the stage is San Francisco’s own DaVinci. The Fillmore resident released his debut album The Day the Turf Stood Still under the Swtbrds label and has set different goals than the typical emcee. DaVinci’s music resonates with the authenticity of life experiences. “The Day The Turf Stood Still is the soundtrack for gentrification and urban renewal,” says DaVinci. “I want to capture the mental state of generations of minorities struggling to preserve and revitalize the last breath of culture we have.”

FREDDIE JOACHIM (organology)
Freddie Joachim (pronounced “JO-AH-KIM”), began his music career as a DJ in 1996. He started out as a mobile DJ in his hometown of San Diego, and for a while spent much of his time focused on being a battle DJ/turntablist. Since then, Freddie has become a DJ that spins and listens to an eclectic mix of genres, with a strong focus on hip-hop and jazz. In 2001, Freddie turned his focus to recording and production.
In the Spring of 2008, Freddie released his first full-length album in Japan entitled, “In With Time,” featuring artists such as Aloe Blacc (Stones Throw), Blu, Muneshine (Wax Reform), Choice37, Lauren Santiago, Profile (The Upstarts/The Sound Providers), Surreal, Othello, Son of Ran and others. In 2009, Freddie released the instrumental album “Study Guide” with longtime friend and fellow producer Question, which was released by Japan’s renowned DJ Tonk on his label Milkdipper.
(Study Guide is available on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, etc.)

BOOGIE BROWN (The Formula | Getlive)
Hailing from the city of San Francisco, Boogie Brown started DJing back in 1989. Since then, he’s been on his grind starting out doing mobile gigs in high school; to his college radio show, “Wild Style Wednesdays”, at Cal State Hayward; to rocking nightclubs in the Bay Area and beyond; and now onto producing mixtapes. DJing and hip hop has been a passion that he has pursued on stage and behind the scenes. He learned the ropes of the business aspect of DJing and organizing events while at Hype! Bookings and Management Agency. Since then, he’s been involved with throwing some of San Francisco’s hottest parties with his crews The Formula and Get Live SF. Currently, you can catch him playing anything from hip hop, dancehall, soul, roots reggae, and breaks in numerous night clubs and lounges in the Bay Area and coast to coast. Recently jumping into the mixtape game, his mixed CD’s “Dedicated” and “Legends of Soul” have created quite a buzz, garnering accolades from some of hip hop’s biggest names.

Stars: Five Ghosts

Written by XARIUSOUND. Filed under Audio. Tagged , , , . No comments.

We can add another name to the list of big indie bands releasing new albums this spring: Stars. The arch, dramatic Canadian indie poppers will release The Five Ghosts, their fifth studio album, on June 22.

This will be the first Stars album since 2007′s In Our Bedroom After the War, and it’ll also be the first release on the band’s own new label Soft Revolution, which will be licensed outside Canada via Vagrant.

All five members of the band contributed songwriting to the album, and Broken Social Scene/Apostle of Hustle member Andrew Whiteman makes a guest appearance. The first single, “Fixed”, features lead vocals from Stars co-leader AmyMillan. In a statement, Millan says, “We have never written an album with this much cohesion and unity. It is the first time we’ve had the luxury of being together in a huge room writing songs off the floor.”

Before the album drops, the band will tour clubs playing The Five Ghosts in its entirety, as well as fan-chosen old jams “Take Me to the Riot”, “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead”, and “Ageless Beauty”. They haven’t announced any of their dates yet, so keep an eye out.
